What is B.Tech credit transfer?

It is the process of moving course credits from your current university to a new one, then finishing the rest of the course there. Example: a student of mechanical engineering at University A moves to University B and uses credit transfer to do so.

Are you eligible?

  • Credits must come from a recognised institution (UGC/AICTE accredited).
  • Your completed curriculum should closely match the new university's.
  • A minimum pass grade or GPA is usually required.
  • Many universities cap transferable credits at 50-70% of the programme.
  • Transfers are often allowed only in early semesters or years.
  • Each university has its own review process and document list.

FAQs

What is inter-university credit transfer?

It lets you carry credits earned at one recognised university to another, so you do not repeat subjects you have already passed.

Who is eligible?

Usually students who have completed at least one year, or about 50%, of their programme. Each university sets its own rules.

What documents are required?

Mark sheets or transcripts, the syllabus from your previous university (ideally for the year you studied), and the credit transfer application form.

Is B.Tech credit transfer legal?

Credit transfer follows UGC guidelines. Always go through the official university portal. Offers of a fast-track degree or a shorter duration than the original course are warning signs of fake processes.

Does credit transfer affect jobs?

If the final degree is from a UGC-recognised university, transferred credits do not affect eligibility for government or private jobs.

Are there limitations?

Core and highly specialised subjects may not transfer, only credits from recognised institutions count, and the receiving university decides how many credits are accepted.

How long does it take?

From a few months to years, depending on documents, university workload and how complex the credit equivalency is.
